Quick answers to frequently asked questions
How do I install Sentinel?
Free Sentinel installs like any other plugin. In wp-admin, go to Plugins → Add New and search SML Sentinel, or upload the zip from the download page. One plugin per site. Sentinel+ is a separate product and is not on WordPress.org.
Is Sentinel compatible with my hosting provider?
If the site runs WordPress 6.2+ and PHP 7.4+ as a single site, Sentinel can run. It is not tested as a network-activated plugin. Full detail is on the system requirements.
Does Sentinel slow down my website?
Writes go into Sentinel's own tables, not your posts table. If volume is a problem, Settings → Performance can queue writes in batches and cap how many events are stored per minute.
Can I export my activity logs?
Yes. Settings → Export & API can download live or archived activity as CSV, JSON, or XML, with a date range. That download does not follow the filters on Activity Logs. There is also an optional read-only REST API, off by default.
Does Sentinel help with GDPR?
Logs stay on your WordPress site. Settings → Privacy & access can turn off IP storage, anonymise older records, skip everyday activity for chosen roles, and offer a deletion-request shortcode that an administrator must approve. How you configure that is up to you. See the Privacy Policy.
I lost my licence key, how can I recover it?
Use the licence recovery page with the email the key was issued to.
